"John Oliver takes a look at how the history of race in America is taught in schools, how we can make those teachings more accurate, and why it’s in everyone's best interest to understand the most realistic version of the past."
"Ignoring the history that you don't like is not a victimless act. And a history of America that ignores white supremacy is a white supremacist history of America."
(EDIT) Honestly, I think that this rampant misteaching of history is, in and of itself, something that is worthy of being taught to students in schools. That is to say, I think it should be explicitly taught to students that not all schools teach history (or anything else, e.g. science, religious studies, etc.) equally, and that some of them try to sugarcoat everything and make it seem not as bad as it actually was. That would happen in an ideal world, however, and I'm not sure how such a curriculum would be created. I wouldn't trust the Department of Education of the current US federal government to do it, that's for fucking sure. (EDIT 2) Actually, no, in a truly ideal world, teaching about this shit wouldn't happen, because the shit itself wouldn't be happening, and thus there would be no need to teach about it. Tucker Carlson was promoted to a full double deuce from me this time. The single deuce was relegated to Laura Ingraham.
(And because those who don't learn history are doomed to repeat it [hint hint HBO with its asinine region-locking of Youtube videos], here are some alternative links.)
