Remember that HD remake of Leisure Suit Larry that I mentioned a while back? Yeah, it's now a Kickstarter thing as well, apparently.

Did the project start today? Looks like they're over 13k already. An impressive start if so.

I first saw it mentioned on Twitter about an hour ago by Al Lowe (https://twitter.com/#!/allowe/status/186865447117926400).

Well, 71k within the first day. I'm going to say it's a safe bet you'll get your HD Larry fix.

Hmm. it's already looking to lose steam at 180k. I'm sure it'd skyrocket if someone slashdotted it. That's probably the biggest problem with these things however. The first to do it makes big news, and as a result, big money. The ones that come after... well, unless some central news site starts covering it in particular...

That isn't a bad idea for a site all the same. One that covers promising games being kickstarted. But of course that site itself would need a large following to be helpful. (So that site itself would need to be slashdotted for instance. ;)

I haven't been following it all that much. I figure it'll either make it or it won't, and there's not a whole lot I can do about it one way or the other.

I know the LSL Kickstarter has already been mentioned on most of the bigger game blogs/news sites, at least the ones I somewhat pay attention to, anyway. About half of the reaction appears to be along the lines of "Well, looks like Kickstarter just jumped the shark with this" or "I'd pay NOT to have a new LSL game" and the like. I don't agree with that sentiment, obviously, but I can kind of see where they might be coming from. I think a lot of that, though, may have to do with the fact that the last two LSL games were pure, weapons-grade shit, especially the most recent one (Box Office Bust). It's possible that people may just not be differentiating between those and the earlier Al Lowe-created games, which were far better. That and there's the fact that even the older LSL games were a fair bit more on the risque side than the norm, and lots of people really do like them some high horses, after all.
