Basically, you just take a small pizza's worth of mozzarella and pepperoni, but rather than spreading that over a pizza crust, you instead spread it over a bowl of spaghetti. And that's pretty much it. That's Pepperoni Spaghetti. It's great.

This was one of the Saturday specials at a restaurant I went to today (the Olympic Family Restaurant in Walnut Cove, NC, for those in the area). I'd never seen it anywhere else or even heard of it before, really. It's such a simple, almost no-brainer concept that I don't know why every place doesn't have it, though.

Today is Tuscani Tuesday, so I decided to order some pasta and pizza for me and Ma. I went online and ordered the Tuscani Tuesday two-for-one deal and a large pizza. The pizza was $11, as expected, and the Tuscani deal was supposed to be $10, but the website charged me $14 for it, for a total of $26.69, including taxes.

When I got down there to pick up my carryout order (because, alas, we don't live close enough for delivery here), I asked the girl who was ringing me up what the Tuscani deal was supposed to cost. She said $10. I said yeah, that's what I thought, but pointed out that the website had charged me $14 for it. She then went in and manually changed the price and said that now the whole order cost $18.15. I said that this didn't sound right either, because the pizza was $11 and the pasta deal was supposed to be $10, so the total should have been $21, not including taxes. But she went ahead and rung it up as $18.15 anyway. So, in the end, I was like (but didn't say out loud) okay, screw it, if you want to undercharge me, that's fine, I guess, just so long as you don't overcharge me.

This isn't the first time there's been weirdness like this. This time and the last time (as well as all the more recent times back in WA) that I ordered a large pizza online, it cost $11. But when Ma called one in before, it cost $16-and-something when she went to pay. For the exact same pizza. So yeah... I guess there are just discrepancies in prices between ordering online and ordering via phone, for some odd unknown reasons that don't make sense to me.

Just like last week, except Papa John's this time. Not that I'm complaining, of course. Before this, it's mostly been old gray-haired dudes doing the deliveries.

Thus, I am remarking on it.

This has to be one of the most disgusting things I've seen in a long while, so I'm going to share it with the world.

"Why Tip?"

I kind of hope this story goes viral.

Tangentially related to that, here's something that has always mystified me: when you order a pizza for delivery, they add a "delivery charge" to the final cost. I would be fine with that, except that this apparently doesn't cover driver expenses, since you are also expected to give a tip in addition to this nebulous extra charge. So what I want to know is what is the purpose of this so-called "delivery charge" then, if not to compensate the delivery driver?

Note to self: NEVER EVER AGAIN ORDER A PIZZA ON A SUNDAY FROM THE LOCAL PIZZA HUT.

I ordered a pizza at 1:16pm (according to the original order form). It still hasn't gotten here yet. It arrived while I was in the middle of typing this post.

On the upside, I did call them at around 20 minutes past the original estimate of 95 minutes (or around 3:10pm), and the manager said I would be getting this order for free.

On the downside, it still hasn't gotten here yet. In 25 minutes, it will have been 2 hours past the original estimate of 95 minutes. I will be calling them again if it's not here by then.

Even though it was late, I still offered to give the driver a 5 dollar tip (in cash, this time, since I wasn't doing the credit card thing this time, since this one was free). My reasoning was that if he's the only driver he's probably being stretched to his limit, so it would be only fair. However, he refused to take it because he "wouldn't feel right about it". His reasoning was that the pizza was an hour and a half late. Well, I mean, it's not his fault that he's the only driver and all, and I felt kind of weird because he didn't take it, but oh well, that's another $5 saved (in addition to the original $25 or so for the pizzas themselves).

...expected delivery time is 135 minutes? o_O

That's clearly a typo. I hope. It had better be.

(EDIT)

While it was still over an hour before it got here, at least it wasn't 135 minutes. Apparently they only have 1 driver on Sundays, and he said they got unexpectedly overloaded with orders today.

Um... okay. LJ went down for about an hour while I was in the middle of writing this post. o_O

Well, anyway...

So, I ordered a pizza tonight online. The order result thing said to expect the delivery at around 8:41pm. They're usually pretty punctual about it, rarely being either late or early by more than just a few minutes.

Okay, I was sitting here and I heard a car loudly drive up a few minutes ago (8:25pm or so) and I'm like "Oh, the pizza's early? That's cool."

I went to the door and looked through the peep hole. The pizza guy was standing there talking to one of my neighbors, who was apparently the one who had just drove up. I waited until he came to the door before opening it. He then knocked on the outer storm door with these tiny, mousy micro-taps that I barely heard even though I was standing right there at the door.

I opened the door and he said, "Oh, sorry, I was about to leave. I've been out here like five minutes knocking on the door and you didn't show up." So, apparently, he was even earlier than it had seemed. Oh, and he said he left his phone behind so he couldn't call me.

I told him that A) I hadn't been expecting him for another 15 minutes or so and B) I hadn't heard him knocking on the door until then.

See, now this is another one of my pet peeves. If you're going to knock on somebody's door, knock on the freaking door already. Don't just barely touch it and hope that someone just happens to be standing right there and maybe possibly can hear you tapping. I had four fans running in here because it's so freaking hot, and I also had the TV up pretty loud while playing Persona 3 FES in order to compensate for the fans being on (though I muted it when I heard the car drive up). So, there's no possible way I would have heard this guy from in the other room.

Well, whatever. Pizza came early, so it's all cool, I guess. If he had taken off without delivering it, however, I'd've had to cut a bitch.

Now that the focus groups for GAM class are over, I will now go on my Prasannamazing Prasannadventure!

UPS just delivered the new microwave, to replace the one that died. I hooked it up and heated up a couple slices of pizza, and it seems to be working fine. So, all is well in Me-Land once again, at least on the microwave front.

Hmm, I ordered a pizza right after the last microwave died, and ordered another pizza right before this one arrived. Coincidence? I think so. Entirely.

Bah.

In my last entry, I wrote: "Beyond that, I don't plan on doing much of anything at all besides vegetate for the next two and a half days."

So, of course, this morning was the perfect time for my microwave to decide to die on me. After calling my sister about it, I walked a mile or so to Home Depot and Target. They didn't have crap at either place in the way of decent microwaves. So I walked back home. It was raining both ways. In the end, I'm sort of glad it worked out that way anyway, because I don't have a clue why I thought it would be a good idea to try to carry a 35+ pound microwave a mile in the rain back to my condo. My sister is going to order me one online after she does all this market research stuff, which I have zero interest in doing myself, in order to find out what will be the absolute best deal on a new microwave. I just want something capable of heating up TV dinners and popping popcorn, personally.

But, because I'll be damned if I was going to be going home empty-handed, I bought Black & White 2 at Target. So there is that. It was about the only thing for any system they had that even remotely interested me. Now I have to delete some crap off of my comp to make room for it to install.

I think I'll be ordering a pizza later, since until I go to QFC at some point I'll have absolutely nothing to eat. Unless I want to try to eat a frozen TV dinner, which I don't think I'll be doing. And I'm certainly not going to QFC today. So, yeah, ordering a pizza is sounding better and better all the time.

(EDIT) And Pizza Hut screwed up my order, which was bad. On the other hand, they made things right when I pointed it out to the delivery guy, which was good. This made him have to make two trips, which sucks for him but oh well. (/EDIT)

So I finally got around to ordering an OGIC T-shirt. For once, I didn't immediately forget about it.

While I was in an ordering mood, I also ordered a pizza.

*nods sagely*

Well, I just ordered my first pizza via the Internet, from PizzaHut.com. The pizza got here at almost exactly the time that was specified on the site. Interesting experience, I have to say, and one which I'll probably do again in the future.
