Hmm.

Now the question can be answered: was all the shittiness that came out of Activision Blizzard over the past several years mostly a result of executive meddling from Vivendi, or is Activision Blizzard itself really that shitty all on its own merits?

Activision was bought by Vivendi in 2007 (for the sake of comparison, it was a few short months after BioWare was bought by EA in fact, which is when BioWare started getting rather shitty rather quickly). Blizzard, however, has been in the clutches of Vivendi for a lot longer, having been part of the whole clusterfuck that ruined Sierra On-Line as well. As far as I am concerned, Diablo II (released in 2000) and Warcraft III (released in 2002) were the last good games to come out of Blizzard (as I don't intend to play Starcraft II until the whole game is released and bundled together for a reasonable price, and I don't give the slightest shit about World of Warcraft or that upcoming Titan thing at all). Granted, both of these games came out after the acquisition, but it was early enough that the shittiness hadn't become too ingrained yet.
