Bus crap

My bus was seven minutes early yet again today, at least according to the time posted on the Trip Planner. The Trip Planner claims that it is supposed to be there at 5:13pm, yet today it was there at 5:06pm. I missed it once again because I was standing there waiting to cross the street when it went rolling by. I sent in another complaint about it to Metro today.

However, I noticed something new today. I plugged in NE 51st St into the Trip Planner instead of my stop at NE 31st St. The Trip Planner claims that the 266 is supposed to be there at 5:15pm, which also matches the route schedule for 266 (which doesn't mention my particular stop on it at all). Now, as anyone who has attempted to travel along 148th Ave NE between 5:00pm and 6:00pm can surely attest, it is NOT PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE that a bus (or a car or anything else for that matter) can travel twenty blocks or so in just two minutes (i.e. from NE 31st St at 5:13pm to NE 51st St at 5:15pm), given how incredibly constipated the traffic tends to be around that time of day.

I noted this as well in the complaint I sent in today. Likely, if they bother to do anything at all, they'll fix the issue by simply moving the time for the bus to reach my stop up to 5:06pm from the current time of 5:13pm or some such crap, rather than moving the later stop down to a later time. I guess this will be the case given that the stop at NE 51st St is one of those Time Point things, at which the buses are supposed to match their time with their actual schedule, whereas my stop is just some rinky-dink "just got off the highway" stops. I'm pretty sure this is why the bus is always so incredibly early in getting to my stop: he's trying to get to NE 51st St by 5:15pm. Changing the Trip Planner results, while it would be more accurate I suppose, would do absolutely nothing to help me. Well, aside from the fact that it would stop misleading me into thinking I can actually catch this particular bus without, like, leaving work 10 minutes early or something.

Of course, I should keep in mind that this is the same Trip Planner that gave me these staggeringly awesome results.

Feedback sent via the King County Metro website )

I am getting so sick of this bullshit. This will be the third time that I've sent in a similar complaint to them about this issue. I lucked out today only because the co-worker with whom I'd caught a ride was willing to race ahead of the bus and get me as far as the NE 51st St. bus stop (i.e. my old DigiPen bus stop) before the bus got to that one.

Bus pass

I'm getting pretty damn sick of the Redmond post office. Once again, I ordered a bus pass from King County Metro and then, once again, the post office failed to leave a notice that they had received it and that I needed to come pick it up. Like I said, this is not the first time that this has happened.

Note to self: Redmond Transit Center opens on Saturday.

What a load of crap. King County Metro is apparently raising the prices on their fares and bus passes, starting March 1, 2008. This isn't all that bad in and of itself, I suppose (and I'm actually somewhat surprised that they haven't already done so long ago, what with rising gas prices and all), but because of this they are not selling three-month passes for February-April at all, which sucks ass.

I have for you a tale of tragedy, upheaval, and betrayal. This is a tale consisting of two chapters.

Chapter 1 - The Bus )

Chapter 2 - DigiPen )

Epilogue - Bus II: The Revenge

And to top things off, the bus to go back home was about 8 or 9 minutes later than it should have been. At least it didn't have a broken mirror.

I finally got my bus pass today, just 2 days shy of a full month after I ordered it. Since I had not received my replacement as of yesterday, I sent an email to Metro about it. Metro replied this morning that they had contacted the post office, and that the post office claimed to have attempted to deliver it on November 1 and had left a notice about it. Maybe they did attempt to deliver it, I don't know. What I do know is that I never received any sort of notice, particularly since I was keeping an eye specifically for this notice. I even went back and looked through all the mail I've received in the past week and a half or so, just on the off chance that I'd somehow overlooked it, but it simply wasn't there. The only thing I can think of that may have happened, assuming they delivered it at all, is that they delivered the notice to the wrong mailbox. If this is the case, it definitely wouldn't be the first time that they've delivered mail to the wrong place. I've gotten mail intended for neighbors in my condo complex, which I always go back and put in the correct mailbox, and I know that at least one piece of mail intended for me was delivered to a neighbor, because I found it lying outside my door with a little note saying that they'd accidentally opened it up before realizing that it wasn't addressed to them.

Bus rant

Days like today, or even this whole past week or so, make me wish I had my car out here, so that I could just give King Country Metro the middle finger and be done with it.

Bus rantings )

Something went down at the B tonight (that is the 7-11 near DigiPen, for the uninitiated), though I don't know what it was. I was in there around 9:00pm or so, give or take a minute or two, having just gotten out of class, but didn't see anything weird. About 5 to 10 minutes later, when I was standing across the street at the bus stop, a police car came down 148th from the direction of Redmond and pulled into the parking lot there, then a few seconds later, another came from the direction of Bellevue and did the same. After being there for about five minutes, one of the officers pulled their car closer to the building than they had stopped when they originally gotten there. Not a clue what happened. *shrug*

Anyway, on an unrelated note, the bus was about six or seven minutes late, which was annoying (but, on the bright side, there were no yammering kids on board for the trip back, unlike coming in to class earlier). I walked in the door tonight at 9:36pm. Last week, I walked home from this same class rather than taking the bus. Last week, I also walked in the door at 9:36pm. Weird.

So, MAT 300 ended, and I needed only the flimsiest of excuses before I'd have said "Screw you DigiPen, I'm going home." Well, instead, I decided to head to Euclid and work on my GAT project some more (after scoring a free cookie from what was apparently meal plan left-overs).

Well, as the fates would have it, about 2 minutes after I got logged in, we had a 10-15 second power outage. I almost hopped up and left right then, but decided to give it another go when the power came back on. So, I tried to log in again, only to find that the network was now borked, in a manner almost exactly like it was borked last night between 10:30pm - 11:00pm or so. Imagine my shock. *eyeroll* So, instead of waiting god only knows how long for the network to come back, I uttered a s silent, but heartfelt, "Screw you DigiPen, I'm going home", and came home.

On top of that, when I did finally leave, I made it to the bus stop at the exact same time as the bus, so I didn't have to stand around in the rain and wind waiting for it. (I like rain and wind and all, but standing around in it waiting for a bus sucks.) If I'd been even 30 seconds later in leaving, I'd have missed the bus and been boned.

Apparently the power outage extended to here as well, because my computer was off and all the clocks were flashing. Unless, of course, it was just [livejournal.com profile] yamen breaking in and turning everything off again. Luckily, I didn't have any corn flakes this time. :P

And now, I'm very seriously considering going to take a nap. -.-

The bus to take me home this evening came about four minutes early. Didn't mind that much, although if I'd stuck around work for the extra minute or two that I sometimes do, I'd probably have missed it. Got on and noticed that it was some old woman driving that I'd never seen before, instead of the guy who normally drives that route. No big deal, and probably somewhat explains why the bus was early. I swiped my bus pass and started to the back, and the driver goes, "Whoa, hold on a minute. Let me see that pass." I'm like, "Um... o...k..." and show her my 3-month pass. She looks at it for a few seconds and then says, "Oh. Ok, I just didn't know what the blue stood for." o_O Nevermind that fact that I had already swiped it and it had beeped, meaning that the machine had accepted it.

On the bright side (to make a total non sequitur), at least I'm not in Phoenix, Arizona at the moment.

Damn it.

Well, I got a call from Sears Optical saying that my glasses were ready to be picked up, so I decided to go and get them today.

However, it turns out that the buses through the Redmond Park and Ride and the surrounding area are cancelled today and tomorrow due to some dumbass parade or something. This was NOT mentioned AT ALL on the Metro website, so I didn't find out about this until after I had already walked to the Park and Ride and stood there like a fool for about ten minutes. Finally, someone else also waiting for a bus came up and happened to see the single tiny sign that was posted on the other side of the bus schedule board.

Guess I'll have to go pick up my glasses during lunch break or after work on Monday or something. This sucks ass.

Instead of letting young children ride the bus for free, I think that Metro should, instead, charge parents to let their kids ride. By as much as ten times the standard fare, perhaps. If standard fare is $1.25, charge $12.50 for each child someone brings with them to ride the bus. For peak times it would be $15.00 per. Metro might not make a killing off of this plan, but honestly, I don't give a crap about that. All I care about is that it would greatly thin out the number of small children who rather frequently ride the bus. I find it absolutely amazing just how big of a headache I can attain during a short, ten minute bus ride. But then, when there are multiple screeching, shrieking banshees children on the bus, those ten minutes can seem like ten hours.

I don't mind children normally, but damn...

Kiss my ass, William Willett.

Note to self: actually change the clocks next time, instead of saying "Oh, I'm too tired to bother going around and changing them now. I'll just change them tomorrow. Surely I'll remember to get up at the right time."

Also, as I've said before, Sunday/holiday bus schedules suck ass.

Bus Pass

Last time I ordered a bus pass, it took them almost a full month to get it to me, for some reason. Well, I ordered a new 3-month Apr-Jun bus pass on Sunday night from the Metro website. In the mail yesterday was a form from the post office saying that... something was waiting for me to sign for and pick up. There were none of the usual identifying marks on the post office form that would indicate what it was. Just a string of cryptic numbers. I went to the post office this morning and picked it up, and it turned out to be the new bus pass.

In other related news, the bus driver today was an ass. The bus arrived at the park and ride about five minutes early. However, he pulled over on the side of the road and let the bus behind him (which was on time) go past. I had no problem with that, really. The other bus pulled into the park and ride and started letting people on, and the bus I was waiting for then also pulled into the park and ride. Instead of walking back to the bus I decided to wait for him to pull up normally. Well, the other bus left and he just... kept sitting there. This I had a slight problem with, but I just shrugged and walked out to the bus anyway and got on. Then the guy pulled up and was apparently NOT going to stop and let anyone else on, because when some old guy started walking toward the bus at this point, the driver said, quite loudly, "You dumb fart!" and then had to stop and let the guy on. Had he just pulled up to begin with, this wouldn't have been a problem. So, yeah, the bus driver was an ass today.

Dear driver of the bus who brought me to school this morning,

Please scream and curse into your cell phone about your dysfunctional family's inheritance disputes on your own time, rather than while driving the bus. Especially if your parents are both still alive, which seemed to be the case based on the extremely loud conversation you were having with the person on the other end of the line.

Thanks,
Me.

Due to me oversleeping by about twenty minutes, the next available bus isn't until 1:00pm, which means I won't get to the game dev meeting until ten to twenty minutes after that. Bah.
kane_magus: (Default)
I finally got a thing in the mail today that said they tried to deliver the 3-month (Jan-Mar) bus pass that I ordered back on January 2. I just need to go to the post office tomorrow morning and sign for it. It's a good thing too as I was starting to run low on change for bus fare again.
kane_magus: (Default)
Bah, screw it. I'm going to bed. I got a few problems of physics and a few problems of math done, but there's still the rest of both to do and I'm not in the right frame of mind to do them now.

This headache, though progressively less than it was when I got up, has been with me all day. Maybe I just didn't sleep well last night and don't remember it or something. Hopefully I haven't come down with something and I'll be all right in the morning.

Note to self: Go to the bank in the morning to get bus fare, because the three-month pass you ordered on Jan. 2 still hasn't arrived yet.
