"Mortal Kombat's first two downloadable fighters revealed"

Note that the new Mortal Kombat game doesn't come out for almost another month.

Yet, they are already announcing DLC characters. On the one hand, it doesn't appear to be Day One DLC at least. On the other hand, neither were Jill and Shuma Gorath in MvC3, and those were already on the disc and just unlocked with a 100KB download.

The gist: the video game industry is going down the toilet.

Anyway, I'm still vaguely interested in this new MK game, despite the above. I played the demo on the PS3, and it seemed to being going back to its roots ala MK1-MK3 as far as gameplay goes. I'll probably end up getting it someday, but it won't be at launch and will likely be after I find it on sale for cheap somewhere. I guess I'll hold out for the Komplete version.

I linked you this on irc, but just so everyone else can see, here it is again. >_>

Will it get -this- bad? No. I can only pray that people will wake up long before it gets to Chess Hero level. But it will get much worse, unfortunately.

Or fortunately. I need an excuse to boycott the entire industry so I can go back and finish the 400 game backlog that needs to be played through.

Regarding the game itself, I find it kind of funny how half the comments I read were people complaining "my god they couldn't do anything NEW with the game! It's been a decade now, they could have at least added a couple more fighters!"

At the same time them complaining that Kratos was added of course. Personally I don't get the whole appeal to the God of War series so it's not that big a deal to me. That being said I may pick up 1 and/or 2 eventually since the style of game is something I do like regardless. It's just not compelling enough for me to buy it even at 20 bucks...

Mind you, the real funny thing about the whole ordeal is that if they DID add new stuff to the game, I'm sure we'd have the same people (or at least the same amount of people) bitching about how the new content ruined the franchise, etc etc. (See Kratos comment above!)

Paying for characters that are on a disc is a frustrating experience as it flat out tells a gamer that they withheld something from the game to be DLC.

To this day, I find that Rock Band hit the sweet spot for DLC in the $1-$2 range as it's just within the impulse buy range AND provides a lot of playtime (assuming you like the song in the first place). If Shuma Goroth and Jill were $2 each, no issues and an easy purchase decision. But at $5 a piece with the prospect of more to come, an expensive game just got a lot more expensive.

Add to that all the "Platinum" versions coming out, in which companies package up all their DLC (including pre-order incentives) I know many gamers who are waiting for the cheaper "complete" version of a game, and quite often, when this complete version comes out, they don't even bother as they've moved on to other games.
