I'd be somewhat more excited for The Sims 4 if it weren't for the fact that I bought The Sims 3 Island Paradise expansion pack recently, but have not been able to play it at all due to the horrendous lag, which has not been patched even though it's been almost 2 months since the damn thing came out. The game is literally unplayable for me due to this lag, at least on the titular island map. As such, it doesn't fill me with anything remotely resembling confidence for The Sims 4.
But even ignoring that, I just don't know if I have the wherewithal to endure yet another cycle of them releasing the base game with all of the cool shit that was added to the previous games via EP being stripped out yet again, only to be slowly re-added once more via still more EPs. Because you know that's what they're going to do. This is EA, after all. Hell, they're working on The Sims 4 now, but there's also still yet another EP coming for The Sims 3 as well. I'd honestly prefer they stop and fix all the damn bugs that have been in the game even as far back as vanilla Sims 3, rather than continuing to pump out more and more broken shit. But, like I said, it's EA. That's just business as usual for them.
(EDIT)
And having watched that gameplay trailer thing... I don't really get it. I'm not sure how that's all that different from how it is now. Sims could get "furious" at least as far back as Sims 2, I think, and in the original Sims game, the tragic clown would show up if they get too depressed. I guess this is the first time they've focus on individual emotions, rather than just a general "mood bar raised == good, mood bar down == bad" sort of thing, maybe?
Also, I like how when they talk about the "brand new" create-a-Sim stuff (hello, Spore anyone?) one of the very first things they show is them playing with a female Sim's breasts. ¬_¬
