"'Getting Back To Normalcy'"
Jun. 11th, 2021 03:13 pm(Double-nested quotes because I always put headlines of posts that aren't originally mine in quotes to begin with, and this one was already a quote, so yeah.)
Yeah, I don't want to go back to "normal" because "normal" is what got us into this mess in the first place. "Normal," at least in the United States, was a bunch of racist dumbfucks spewing about "the China virus" rather than taking this shit seriously. "Normal" was a bunch of moronic shitstains bawwing about "muh freedoms" rather than wearing a goddamn mask. "Normal" was, apparently, what got Dumbshit Jackass Tramp elected to SCROTUS for four years, which directly led to far more people dying of COVID-19 than there probably otherwise would have been. (Then again, even if Hillary Clinton had been President like she should have been, the same "China virus" "muh freedoms" racist fuckwits would have still existed, so... who knows? They still probably would have deliberately not worn masks because Hilary would have been telling them to wear masks, as opposed to their God Emperor Dump, who was explicitly telling them not to wear masks.)
And yeah, big soulless corporations have been and always will be big soulless corporations, so that's nothing new. That's part of "normal" as well. A big soulless corporation shrouding itself in a thin veneer of humanity is, yes, still a big soulless corporation. Go figure.

Election shit 3
Nov. 4th, 2020 02:59 pmCurrent standings, Biden 248 electoral, Trump 214 electoral. If Biden wins Michigan (16) and Nevada (6), then he will get the 270 electoral votes required to be the next POTUS. He is currently "leading" in those states (i.e. he's ahead in total votes for those states, with more votes still to be counted). (EDIT) At least, via the Associated Press numbers (via Google), anyway. Other news entities that are following this may be counting differently or more slowly. (/EDIT)
Here's the thing though. No matter how this turns out, good (Biden wins) or bad (Trump wins), the fact that it is as close as it is, and not a complete fucking rout for Trump/blowout for Biden, it just goes to show that this country is still super-super-SUPER-fucked up. That this many people still voted for goddamn Dumbshit Jackass Trump in the year 2020 CE, despite every one of the myriad good and valid reasons that they shouldn't have done so, is just insufferable, because even if Trump loses, these motherfucking asshats are still going to be things that exist in this benighted country.
Here's another thing. Regardless of how the fucking Electoral shit goes, Biden is still currently ahead of Trump by almost 3,000,000 actual votes, which is around the same margin that Hillary Clinton beat Trump in 2016. The fact that it is even possible for the candidate with the fewer number of votes to still win the goddamn presidency is extremely fucked up. The Electoral College needs to go. As far as I am aware, no other race in the United States uses anything like an Electoral College, as they're all determined by, you know, who gets the most fucking votes.
And here's a third thing, if the Senate remains in Republican control, which seems likely, then Biden winning won't mean all that much, because Bitch McConnell will still fuck over everything Biden may want to try to do, because Bitch McConnell is Bitch McConnell, i.e. a... well, I was going to say "bitch," but that is an insult to actual female dogs. I can't say "piece of shit" either, because that's insulting to actual feces. I can't call him a "motherfucker," because that is degrading to actual people who have sex with their own mothers. I really can't think of a good enough insult to use against Bitch McConnell (aside from lamely rhyming his name with "Bitch") that isn't more insulting to the thing he's being compared to than it is to him. Maybe "Mitch McConnell" needs to become an insult, in and of itself, the same way "Santorum" did.
Seriously, I hate Bitch McConnell more than I hate even Trump, and if the Senate had flipped to D and McConnell had lost, even if Trump had won again and remained POTUS for four more years, I almost think I would have preferred that, honestly.

"The Plague and the President"
Oct. 2nd, 2020 11:48 amA post on whatever.scalzi.com.
Yeah, this does the opposite of surprise me. If anything, the only thing that surprises me about it is that it took as long to happen as it did. And yeah, I certainly have "less sympathy" for Trump, right now, and I don't really share Mr. Scalzi's worries about karmic disadvantage or whatever. To put it bluntly, half of me is like "I hope Trump Herman Cain's this bitch." But the other half of me is like "No, no, if Trump dies horribly of COVID-19, that would be too easy an escape for him. He needs to remain alive so that he can face justice for his myriad crimes." If Trump dies of COVID-19, I will not be happy about it, but if I said I wasn't feeling more than a bit of schadenfreude at the moment, I'd be as big of a liar as Trump himself is. It's just too bad that it's "merely" COVID-19 and not something like necrotizing fasciitis. (That will probably be the thing that I end up getting, somehow, if karma is real, given how often I've used it as a wished for punishment for assholes. ¬_¬)
Honestly, though, probably the absolute worst possible thing (not for Trump himself but for the rest of the country and world) would be for Trump to make it through his infection of COVID-19 relatively unscathed, because then (as Mr. Scalzi mentions in his post, as well) Trump would almost assuredly say something along the lines of "See? No big deal! I told you so! No need to wear masks!" And as for Mr. Scalzi's pie in the sky pipe dream of Trump being introspective for once in his rotten life, no... I personally believe that Donald J. Trump is physically and mentally incapable of being introspective. May he prove me wrong.
(EDIT) Also, Trump dying of COVID-19 would mean "President Pence" for at least the next almost four months. Possibly longer, because there are probably far too many voters who would have voted for Biden against Trump who would gladly and with great relief vote for Pence against Biden. (/EDIT)
(EDIT 2) As someone in the comments under Mr. Scalzi's post pointed out, it was exactly four years ago to the day that Trump was mocking Hillary Clinton for have pneumonia. GIVE ME A BREAK. (/EDIT 2)
(EDIT 3) And for all the people musing that this might just be yet another lie on Trump's part, so that he can be "miraculously cured" by hydroxychloroquine or whatever... well... given that it is Trump and Trump lies constantly, I guess I can see how some might think this could be the case, and it certainly could be the case, which says a lot about how dishonest Trump is... but, no, I don't buy that. At least not right now, I don't. (/EDIT 3)

Dumbfuck hick neighbors
Apr. 2nd, 2020 07:16 pmSo today, I drove by my neighbors' brand new "Trump/Pence 2020" signs and the even more asinine "Hillary for Prison 2020" sign, complete with a picture of Hillary Clinton with vertical bars drawn over it, that they recently put up in their yard to replace the increasingly ragged Trump 2016 signs that had been there for the past four years.
At first, these signs made me feel pretty enraged, at least for a little while. But then I calmed down a bit and thought about it, and it's like this doesn't reflect anything bad on me, even though they live just a few houses down the road. Those signs do nothing but merely display to the world the fact that those particular neighbors are fucking moronic asshats, that's all. Because for anyone in the year 2020 CE to still support Donald Trump and to think that Hillary Clinton is the one who deserves to go to prison, and for them to actively advertise this by putting up yard signs boasting it, it is objectively impossible for such people to not be fucking moronic asshats.
And that actually almost kind of makes me feel a bit of schadenfreude. But mostly I'm just disgusted to have to see the dumbshit things every time I go by.

"Trump Should Be Removed from Office"
Dec. 20th, 2019 02:17 amSome disinformation in this article (e.g. "Trump did not have a serious opportunity to offer his side of the story in the House hearings on impeachment."), and some other laugh out loud asininity (e.g. "Trump’s evangelical supporters have pointed to his Supreme Court nominees, his defense of religious liberty, and his stewardship of the economy, among other things, as achievements that justify their support of the president."), but as far as the main thrust of the article is concerned, I fully agree: Trump must go. Better (incredibly, years) late than not at all, I suppose.
For reference: Christianity Today.
And, of course, so-called "Christian" Trumpanzees are now calling for boycotts of this Christianity Today, because it dared to call out their God Emperor for the malefactor that he is.
(EDIT) To be fair to Christianity Today, this is not the first time they've called out Trump, either. I mean, this article is chock-full of bullshit of the worst sort, too, with regards to the Democrats in general and Hillary Clinton in particular, but at least... like... they tried, I guess, concerning Trump, maybe? (/EDIT)
(EDIT 2) Here is the SCROTUS IMPOTUS's asinine take on the situaion. He won't be reading ET again. (/EDIT 2)

Donald Trump hospital thing.
Nov. 19th, 2019 01:33 amSo, apparently, Donald Trump had a "secret"/"unplanned"/"unscheduled" hospital visit over the weekend or some shit? Oh wait, crap, I posted the wrong link there.
Trump people, of course, say there's nothing to worry about. Routine checkup or whatever. Maybe that's true, maybe it isn't (not that I would give the slightest shit if Trump did have some kind of health-related emergency), but given that Trump and his people lie constantly, who really knows what's going on. I was going to add "besides them," but most of the time I don't even think they know what's really going on.
Seriously, if Trump were to just suddenly drop dead right now of a heart attack or something, I would be simultaneously relieved, because that means he would no longer be the President, and disappointed, because that also means he would have escaped facing justice for all of his criminal bullshit. I would not, however, shed a single tear or lose a single night's sleep over his stupid, lying, corrupt, corpulent ass.
(EDIT) And here is a Seth Abramson thread on the matter for good measure. (/EDIT)

(As per the usual these days, the below was copy/pasted from Facebook, with edits for formatting and some extra hyperlinks added in to spice things up a bit.)
With all the renewed vigor that has been injected into the "should Trump be impeached" debate recently (and I don't really care the reason, be it Trump trying to do to Biden now the same thing he tried to do to Clinton leading up to 2016, or whatever), I'm just going to restate what I said a few months ago.
( Follow up bullshit behind cut for length )

(/EDIT)
I've been, perhaps unwisely, reading crap on Google and various news/opinion sites about Trump and reelection, and the vast majority of it is shit like "Trump is on track to get reelected" and "Trump will probably get reelected" and "Trump is favored to win in 2020" and so on and so forth, ad nauseam, ad absurdum, ad infinitum, reworded to be more or less dire and foreboding vs triumphant and gloating depending on the source. A lot of it is from the typical RWNJ sources (of which I only just skimmed the headlines, because why would I subject myself to garbage unnecessarily?), but a lot of it is also from left wing sources (too many of which are too often allowing right wing contributors to surreptitiously blather on their platform, presumably for the "so both sides can be heard" horseshit reasons). Regardless of the source (even the legitimate left wing ones), they're mostly saying the same things: "Trump will probably win again."
And I'm like, okay... you stupid fuckers keep on repeating this from now until the next election (especially the ones who don't want Trump to win), and it's going to turn into a self-fulfilling prophecy. If everyone keeps seeing and hearing "Trump's probably going to win" in the news and such, over and over and over, for the next year-plus, then too many of them will be like "Well then, why should I even bother voting?" Which will, of course feed into the whole "Trump winning" thing (you know, given that Trump is probably going to keep his Trumpanzees riled up enough to vote, no matter what).
I mean, it's over a goddamned year away, and we don't even know who his main opponent is going to be, yet, so why is it so "likely" that Trump is going to win, regardless? I know why the right wing assholes are continually pounding the "Trump's going to win again" drum, but why are the left wing sources also doing it?
(Unless this is all a weird ploy to try to weaponize the whole "all the polls were saying that Hillary Clinton would win and then she didn't" thing against Trump. I dunno. *eye roll*)
And that's not even counting all the "even if Trump loses, he'll probably try to contest it to stay in power" nightmare scenarios, which is a whole other kettle of fish entirely.

I would absolutely listen to an audiobook of the Mueller Report read by Hillary Clinton, if it became a thing that actually existed.
"John Oliver talks about the power of public shaming, good and bad."
I find it interesting that they made it through that entire segment without even once mentioning Future Prison Inmate Donald Trump. Both 1) in the sense of all the instances of public shaming that have been instigated by Donald Trump as well as the ones Trump has participated in even if he didn't directly start them, over the past couple of years while he has been SCROTUS, and 2) in the sense of the fact that Dick Tater himself is the one public figure right now who is probably the single most uniquely deserving of the most intense and sustained public shaming of all.

Yes. This, exactly.
The whole "you're Satan and the absolute worst and that's why I'm running against you in the primary, oops you beat me in the primary, all those horrendous things I said about you during the primary, true or not, don't matter at all now, and now I'll throw my full, unbridled support behind you in the general election, because you're suddenly the bestest awesomesauce ever, and the other guy in the other party that you're running against now is the REAL Satan and ACTUALLY the absolute worst which is why you're the hero who needs to beat him" thing in politics has never not completely baffled me.
And it doesn't even work. It's part of the reason why so many "Bernie Bros" got so fed up and ended up (idiotically) voting for Trump (who truly was and is the absolute worst).
---
What I'm saying is... why can't more politicians be like John McCain (at least in this particular sense)? And yeah, listen to those pre-MAGA MAGAts there in the crowd booing him for being a decent guy.
So yeah, someone apparently tried to assassinate Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, among other people. That is a thing that happened during the past 24 hours. This is the world we live in now.
Trump makes noises in response about how "acts or threats of political violence have no place in the United States of America" and he's right. Acts of political violence don't have a place in America. However, we don't live in America anymore. Thanks to Trump, we live in MehriKKKa now.
Oh, and also, Trump advocating for civility now, in the context of his own numerous and repeated calls for violence against his political opponents, up to and including potential assassination via firearms, is ludicrous and blatantly hypocritical.

Not including multitudinous retweets of other people on the same subject (unless I find a tweet that is directly replying to such a retweet). Also not including tangentially related tweets about video games or whatever that just happen to mention a gun either. And I'm sure this will probably end up having to be split into at least two separate posts. (EDIT) I'm surprised... it made it through in one. (/EDIT) This will also miss tweets with related words like "shot" or "shooting" or "NRA" or "Second/2nd Amendment" that don't explicitly contain "gun" as well (I might do additional posts for those).
