...and is currently sitting at an aggregate 4.2 user rating on Metacritic (for the PS4 version)[1] and a 44% "Mixed" user rating on Steam.

Yeah. How about that.

/me idly goes back to not giving a shit about Street Fighter V.

(Adding the asinine anti-singleplayer trend tag here, since Street Fighter V is retardedly online-only, but this is another case where I wish that I had originally made the tag be "asinine anti-offline trend" instead, since that's more what it's actually about, but I have linked to it too much in other posts to change it now.)

[1] - And notice how I didn't even mention what the aggregate score from the professional critics was, because I haven't given a shit about those guys for a very long while now. (Not that user ratings are all that much more useful on that site either, mind you, but still, in this case, I think it's not entirely out of line.)

Yeah just finished reading PC Gamer about Street Fighter V, and likewise I'll go back to not giving a shit about it.

Of course I stopped giving a shit about Street Fighter series in general since Street Fighter Alpha 3. Yeah, didn't care much for III, or IV.

Long story short: they released it early to collect 60 bucks a pop from clueless fanboys. Sorry, if you buy shit before the reviews are made, ESPECIALLY for AAA titles, then you're clueless. If it was some niche title that only 30,000 on the continent are even going to play, then I can understand not waiting for a review as you may never see one.

So online connectivity problems, lack of content (a sure sign it was rushed out.) etc. All very AAAish. At some point we should be renaming that group of games as FFF. :p

In the comments on PC Gamer there's no shortage of shills. Some whining about being too many whiners because -they- didn't have any problem with the game other than having to go to work in the morning. Others defending then with "Oh they had no CHOICE but to release it now in it's unfortunate condition because of the Capcom Pro Tour.... I guess that's the new excuse for rush jobs. "Oh we had to have it done in time for an arbitrarily set competition date that was based on our rushed development cycle set by the talking heads in marketing."

I for one won't be touching the game, even if next year or so it gets offered as a freebie with PSN+ subscriptions.

My history with modern era Street Fighter is as follows:

I bought the original Street Fighter IV (http://kane-magus.livejournal.com/243570.html) for Xbox 360, not long after it first came out. At first, I tried (in retrospect, foolishly) and failed to buy the Collector's Edition, after which (in retrospect, even more foolishly) I fucking rebought the standard edition, along with one-day shipping, which cost like $70 total (and then I just pirated the OST and the anime that was supposed to come with the CE ¬_¬). I later bought Super Street Fighter IV, also for Xbox 360, for around $10 (which, in retrospect, was still probably paying too much ¬_¬), about which I apparently didn't even bother to make a LJ post.

All of that, of course, was before I stopped buying new games at full price at all, ever (http://kane-magus.livejournal.com/597285.html).

After that, at some point, I bought the Street Fighter Alpha Anthology (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_Fighter_Alpha_Anthology) and the Street Fighter Anniversary Collection (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_Fighter_Anniversary_Collection) for dirt cheap, used, from EB Games/GameStop (back before I stopped buying anything from them at all ever, and boy howdy does this lead me into yet another huge, frothing rant, which will be upcoming in another post in the very near future). And lastly, I got Ultra Street Fighter IV as part of a Humble Bundle I paid $15 for last October (from which I have played a grand total of 21 minutes of USF4 so far, according to Steam).

In any case, yeah, I have no interest whatsoever in Street Fighter V (nor any "super," "ultra," or whatever versions which may come in the future, even though Capcom supposedly claims that there will be no "Super" or whatever versions, because Street Fighter V is apparently a "service" now instead of a "game"). And this is even if it wasn't online-only. Being online-only means that the game is an absolute no-buy for me, even if it had otherwise been a game of utterly orgasmic quality, which it clearly is not.

Also, it doesn't surprise me in the slightest that the PC Gamer comments are clogged with rep management drones and/or fanboys shills. That's at least part of the reason I stopped paying attention to sites like that in the first place.

And I agree with ignoring the "professional" ratings for games. At this point everyone knows "80" of 100 basically means "Game is -just- about shit. So the fact that they gave it a "82" means the game was lacking in content, somewhat buggy, but probably looked pretty... when it ran.

And this brings up another point from the PC Gamer comments.

It does seem that a lot of "professional" reviewers give a pass on broken rushed releases like this by holding off on their review until the shit is fixed, or ignore the bad shit because "they're sure" those things will be fixed in time.

What reviewers really need to do is do their reviews with the exact same tender loving care the developers give the game being reviewed. If they're rushing out broken games, rush out the bad reviews pointing out all those issues. DON'T wait for things to be smoothed over and then review the "real game as it was intended".
