WB Games has been utter, absolute shit for years now.

I don't, and never did, give a flying fuck about MultiVersus, but I think this sucks just on general principle. And I always like to see a good dunk on modern video game industry bullshit, provided once again by Pat and Woolie here.
kane_magus: (Default)

I've never had a flying experience quite as bad as the one Woolie describes here, but... I'm not entirely surprised or shocked by his description, either. I mean, it's like, sure, what he said sounds really terrible, but yeah, that tracks.

It could've been worse, of course. At least the plane didn't crash or anything.

(EDIT)

Wait... that was the same airport that this happened, last night. Their podcasts are usually recorded days before the clips are uploaded to Youtube, so that couldn't have been the reason why Woolie had such problems, but still... holy shit...

(EDIT 2)

Actually, I think the clip is mislabeled. This should be a clip from CSB 305, which was only just released yesterday, not CSB 304, which came out over a week ago. The timing is... not great, regardless.

Here's what I say to the news of all of those Sony GaaS/"live service" games being canceled:

And yeah, the point Pat and Woolie made that these Sony wannabe "forever games" all would have been directly competing not just with the already established powerhouses from other companies but also with each other was a great point. Who the fuck has time to play seventeen different never-ending, time-devouring games at once? I don't have the time, interest, or inclination to play even one of those pieces of shit, but that's just me. And, fuck, I say to hell forever with even the "successful" ones, too, like Fortnite or whatever. In my not at all humble opinion, Fortnite was one of the worst things to happen to the modern video game industry as a whole, up there with shit like Denuvo and NFT games and such (and not just because it also let Epic fund the creation of Epically Gangrenous Shitpuddle).

Another name for the Modern Triple-A Video Game Industry™ easily could be "Sunk Cost Fallacy: The Industry."

The sooner all this shit finally crashes, explodes, and burns to the ground, the better. At this point, it's just gliding along, wobbling, stuttering, barely above tree level, belching smoke, engines on fire, parts falling off, and money spewing like a ruptured sewer pipe out of the cargo hold to be forever lost to the four winds.

"Yeah, okay," indeed. And this is coming from someone whose eyes mostly just glazed over as I scrolled past all the dozens of "nInTeNdO sWiTcH 2 dEtAiLs LeAkEd!1!1!1!" headlines that kept showing up in my Google News app thing on my phone, so I didn't know all that stuff Woolie was listing off. I also didn't care, either. Yeah, the Nintendo Switch 2 is not the thing that is going to get me to become a console (re)convert, especially if it's going to cost potentially up to five hundred USD or whatever. Also, looking forward to it being abandoned and all the servers (because if there's one that seemingly almost all modern video games absolutely require, these days, it's fucking servers) for it turned off within ten years or so.
kane_magus: (Default)

Even ignoring how it affects MMOs, which I do not and will not ever play and vastly do not care about[1], the whole "Discord has replaced dedicated, semi-permanent forums," just in general, is one of the absolute worst, most dogshit things that has happened to the Internet. To hell with Discord.

Aside from that specific bit about Discord, the entire first two thirds of this video can be considered reason number four billion and whatever of why I do not play multiplayer games with randos anymore, in general.

Also, Woolie apparently completely forgot he was a streamer until Pat reminded him at the 33 minute mark. And the discussion that followed after has been added to the list of reasons why I will not ever be a streamer, either.

[1] - Outside of the rare few that have a decent solo-player experience, like Star Trek Online and The Secret World (or Secret World Legends or whatever the fuck it's called now), neither of which I've touched in over two years and eight years, respectively. And the one time I touched STO more recently, I barely got out of the tutorial shit before quitting out, uninstalling, and not touching it since, so the last time I really played STO was much further into the past.

Man, that video title combined with that giant Elongated Muskrat face jump scare is just... *ugh*shiver*

If you don't know what ABDL means, as I didn't, then don't worry, because they helpfully explain it all in the video above. And if you don't know what PoE means, well, as far as I'm concerned, this is all you need to know about PoE. (Honestly, though, whenever I see the PoE acronym these days, I always have to do a quick mental correction to remember the fact that what's being discussed these days is probably Path of Exile, rather than Portal of Evil.)
kane_magus: (Default)

Yes, Woolie, this is the same industry. This is just the same industry, taken to the inevitable logical extremes. You're actually surprised by this?

With that said, though... "imposing daily Christian worship"? o_O Yeeeeeeeeeeesh.
kane_magus: (Default)

The relevant-to-the-video-title discussion doesn't start until around 7:18 in the video, but when it does, boy does it get real depressing real quick. Or, at least, as depressing as any Woolie and Pat discussion in which they're constantly cracking jokes about depressing shit can get, anyway.

For me, I do look at the Google AI blurb thing, but only out of anticipation to see just how ridiculously wrong it can be sometimes. Like, back when I was watching Twin Peaks, I typed a search for something like "how long does the 'james leaves town' subplot last" or whatever, and the Google AI came up with something like "The 'James leaves town' subplot lasts until the end of the series, which is when the dead body of James is discovered. This is a core storyline in Twin Peaks," or some such dogshit like that. (Spoiler alert: James Hurley does not die in Twin Peaks at all.)

Usually, like say 80% of the time, the Google AI blurb is fairly accurate, but for the times when it is not even in the same city where the ballpark is located, it's kind of hilarious how confidently wrong it is... until you remember that random people are seeing this horseshit and taking it at face value that it is accurate.

Yeah... stick a fork in Platinum now. It's done.

That said, as for Hideki Kamiya, in wanting to avoid doing Modern Video Game Industry Bullshit™ over at Platinum, leaving Platinum and returning to Capcom and making Clovers Studio or whatever... I'm not sure if that's actually the best thing in the world, because Capcom hasn't really been all that great lately when it comes to Modern Video Game Industry Bullshit™ themselves, either.

Yes, hopefully, Okami 2 or whatever they end up calling it will be at least as good as the original. On the other hand, Dragon's Dogma 2 is a thing that exists, which I still haven't touched because it is still to this day infected with Denuvo. And pretty much every new Ace Attorney re-release is also contaminated with that shit, too. And so, you just know this new Okami sequel, assuming it ever actually sees the light of day, will be infested with that horseshit, too. As such, I'm not going to get super hyped about Okami 2 at this point in time. Until and unless I see it released, for PC on Steam, and, eventually, without that malware attached to it, I just don't plan to give much of a fuck at all.

The worst thing about these stupid takedowns is the automated nature of it. Funko doesn't like that some rando user uploaded something to itch.io? Just fire off a bot that results in the entire site being (temporarily) removed from the Internet. Some dipshit doesn't like your Youtube video content? Just fire off a few dubious DMCA takedown requests that results in your entire channel being permanently shitcanned without so much as a "Hey, just to let you know" response to you from Google/Youtube.

Also, Woolie and Paige seem to be very vexed by Funko Pops in particular.

I don't think I have ever seen a Funko Pop in person. Just images of them on the Internet.

Reason number, like, a hundred billion or something in the list of reasons why I don't play online multiplayer games. Not that I ever want to play competitive multiplayer games at all, even if I did otherwise play online multiplayer games, which I don't.

Also, it's something that wasn't touched on in the clip above, but an extension of that is why I don't ever want to play online-only-even-for-singleplayer games, either. If a """""server"""""" is telling me I didn't do a thing in a game that I clearly saw myself do in that game on my own computer, or vice versa, then that game is fucked up and I don't want to play it. (But, really, it's more the "no, you can't play your singleplayer game right now because the servers are down and you can't login and we stupidly don't allow you to play this singleplayer game offline" type of issues that make me never want to play online-only-even-for-singleplayer" games.)

(EDIT) It reminds me, again, of that stuff I talked about with Interstate '76, though that was a direct result of a shitty multiplayer system that calculated things client side rather than server side and allowed egregious "hacking" simply via modifying some non-encrypted text-readable config files, but it's still the same sort of issue. (/EDIT)

Yeah, I've been well into the "fuck it, then, I guess I'll just ignore it" phase for at least a decade or two now.

(Yet another "the 'diablo iii' tag is the de facto 'blizzard sucks' tag" post.)
kane_magus: (Default)

Another reason in a very long list of reasons why I don't play online multiplayer video games involving random people.

That said, as far as this particular video goes, everything from "family annihilation" and onward was pretty interesting.
kane_magus: (Default)

No real comment on this one. The tags below are pretty much the gist of the topics this clip was about.

(Also, this is yet another "the 'diablo iii' and 'asinine anti-singleplayer trend' tags are serving as the de facto 'blizzard sucks' and 'asinine anti-offline trend' tags, respectively" post.)

Everything about the contents of this video just screams "modern video game industry bullshit," since that shit has been shit since before Dragon Age: Origins was released in 2009, and it has only gotten excessively worse since. Remember this shit? That Penny Arcade comic there was only very, very slight exaggerating, and it is at least in part because of shit like that that the game is apparently nigh unplayable now.
kane_magus: (Default)

I've done this with far too many video games and some anime (e.g. Hajime no Ippo), usually more for Pat's reasons (just getting distracted by the next shiny thing) than the other ones.
kane_magus: (Default)

Whenever anyone brings up "roleplaying horror stories," I can't help but immediately think of Counter Monkey. Pat's story of his bad experience sounds vaguely similar to (albeit about 27 and a half minutes shorter than) Spoony's Vampire Jyhad story, at least with how it ended up (i.e. with the campaign ruined [or nearly ruined in Spoony's case if the DM hadn't simply neutralized the whole thing via DM fiat] and their involvement in it unceremoniously ended).
kane_magus: (Default)

I hope this Concord shit is the equivalent for the Triple-Meh modern video game industry of 2024 of what E.T. for Atari was for the 1983 video game industry, i.e. one of the biggest, most obvious possible indicators that shit needs to crash and is going to crash, and the sooner the better. "Games as a Service" needs to die. It should never have been a thing to begin with. People have been saying this for at least half a decade now. All of the stupid fucking bullshit that the Triple-Meh video game industry has shat out over the past two or three decades which oozed together into a slurry of worse-than-worthless putrid dumbshit poison needs to be flushed away with the corpse of the Triple-Meh video game industry that it killed.
