"Hi. You may have noticed a new crop of influencers like The Nelk Boys and Bryce Hall taking over online spaces. Today we’re looking at who these people are and how MAGA influencers garnered so much... well, influence."

"The extremely partisan and vindictive crime president, looking to wet his thick beak as sloppily as possible, is now lording over every social media platform, which now happens to be one of the primary ways in which Americans get their information, the youth of which specifically following individual influencers, who may or may not be getting paid by political operatives working directly for that president to put out misinformation."

(My only minor quibble with that italicized quote from Cody Johnston there is that he used the world "misinformation" when he clearly should have used "disinformation.")

This is just dystopian shit. All of it.

It's frustrating and sad and horrible and disgusting that MAGA has been around long enough for there to be a "next generation" of anything related to it.

Also, I'd just like to state, yet again, that I loathe the entire concept of "influencers" in general. The only consolation for me is that I'd never heard of any of those "next generation" MAGA assholes, prior to this video. But then, there were a whole lot of mentions in this video of the current/old generation of MAGA assholes, too.

I don't have a "joe rogan" tag... hmm... not sure if even this 1:18:01 episode of Some More News that is explicitly about Joe Rogan is enough for me to bother creating a "joe rogan" tag. I mean, sure I could just plop "joe rogan" down there in the tags list and then have a "joe rogan" tag for the future, in the unlikely off-chance that I ever mention him again, but he's absolutely not worth the effort of finding and back-tagging the very rare few posts from the past in which I may have mentioned the asshat. Eh... okay, I guess I'll throw a new "joe rogan" tag on this post, for what tiny bit that is worth (even just to me, let alone anyone else).

Also, disclaimer: I have never seen anything of Joe Rogan's show myself, other than a few short clips here and there over the years of him saying stupid shit.

Anyway, on with watching the video at 2x playback speed...

...

...all right, not even five minutes in, and there's some transphobia. Off to a good start.

Side bar: "Walmart fires 6'4" cisgender woman threatened by man who thought she was trans"

Wow. So, basically, a man came into a women's bathroom at a Walmart to harass and threaten a cisgender woman, who worked at that Walmart, because he wrongly, stupidly thought she was transgender merely because she happened to be tall, and then the woman was fired from her job at that Walmart after she reported the incident. (Ostensibly because she rEpOrTeD iT tO tHe WrOnG tYpE oF mAnAgEr... what the actual fuck ...so, then, why was the manager she did report it to not also fired for not reporting it up the chain to the, supposedly, "correct" type of manager? Probably because said manager wasn't a tall woman who "looked trans.")

And, of course, this fucking happened in goddamned Florida. That tracks.

And now, onto the COVID disinformation part of the show...

Ah, and there's the racism... hmm, turns out Joe Rogan apparently had very different views back in 2019 or whenever, compared to now...? Gee, I wonder why? Oh, right, it's because of the Trump stuff.

And here comes the Trump-specific stuff (though that's really been an undercurrent of the entire video all along)... Joe Rogan before: "The morons had a king." Joe Rogan now: "He's real." Also, it does indeed seem really weird that Joe Rogan, who apparently hates everything to do with Jeffrey Epstein, had Donald Trump, someone who really appears to have been a close, personal friend of Jeffrey Epstein, as a guest on his show, and apparently never once mentioned Jeffrey Epstein. Go figure.

Joe Rogan didn't like Tim Walz, because Tim Walz was, supposedly, "a liar." Therefore, all in for Trump I guess????? The guy who has spouted literally multiple tens of thousands of documented lies over the past decade????? Okay, Joe Rogan. Okay.

Elon Musk? A genius? The smartest person alive? Okay, Joe Rogan. Okay.

Trump is "an outsider" and "anti-establishment" in the same way that GamerGate was "actually about ethics in video game journalism." Joe Rogan, by supporting Trump, is also no longer "anti-establishment," because Trump, like it or not, is the fucking, goddamned "establishment" now. Thanks, in part, to Joe Rogan, specifically.

Ah, and there comes the anti-abortion sentiment and the homophobia, too. Keep 'em comin', Joe. They're all just beach ball issues with no actual substance or value, amirite? *eye roll*

I'm on the tail end of Gen X, having been born in 1979 (Google/Wikipedia says Gen X was from "1965 to 1980"), and believe you me, I have absolutely not undergone a "right-wing turn." Maybe I'm just an aberration, though. *shrug*

Oh, and we're even getting just a smidge of antisemitism up in here (along with some Nazi propaganda/Hitler apologia), too. The hits just keep on comin', Joe.

So, in conclusion, while Joe Rogan isn't the absolutely worst grifter/con-man/right wing dumbshit that Some More News has done a video about, he's also obviously not the greatest dude in the world, either. I don't know... maybe Joe Rogan could be one of the rare few Trumpanzees that potentially could be shamed into changing his ways by being called a hypocrite, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that. In any case, this video has not convinced me to suddenly start watching the 6000+ hours of The Joe Rogan Experience or whatever the fuck.

(They didn't manage to get through this video without at least some dumb skits involving Katy and Warmbo. Short as they were, they were still present. *sigh*)

"Hi. Elon Musk is not very good at things – running companies, managing the government's money, parenting, gaming, etc. And he thinks you're so fucking stupid that you won't even notice."

<@CodyJohnston>: Elon Musk is the most desperately uncool man who ever lived.
<DonaldJTrump> has entered the chat.

It's kind of funny-weird that even though this video was very specifically about Elon Musk and all the stupid shit that Elon Musk has done and is doing and will do, and even though Donald Trump wasn't mentioned all that much, Cody Johnston still made several generalized statements about Elon Musk that would remain true if you replaced "Elon Musk" with "Donald Trump." Both of those guys are rich assholes who have used money to "game the system." It's almost as if that's just a thing that rich assholes, in general, do all the time.

"Hi. Today we're looking at AI-generated images, why they look like that, why fascists love them, and how corporations want to use them to cheapen the valuable work of creatives."

Very small aside, I loathe everything about that "based" modern slang bullshit, so Cody mildly mocking it once and loosely associating it with alt-right incel MAGAt dildos in this video brought a vague quarter-smile to my face.
kane_magus: (Default)

"Hi. Well, we're doing this again.... I guess. So, let's ask the tough question: are Americans just plain stupid for electing Donald Trump?"

The gist of the above video:
  1. Voters in general = ignorant and gullible and inattentive and very checked out of politics on the whole (because politics, granted, is indeed very fucking banal and insane and enraging), but not necessarily full on stupid, and as such it almost, almost makes sense that more of them voted for the loud, obnoxious, brazen liar/con man/criminal who claims he very definitely has real, true, totally legitimate plans to Fix Everything™ instead of for the establishment bozos who appeared (to ignorant, gullible, inattentive, very checked out eyes) to have been, at best, keeping everything bad or, at worst, actively making everything worse, in large part because the loud, obnoxious, brazen liar/con man/criminal repeatedly, incessantly said they were.
  2. Democrats (specifically Democratic politicians) = very definitely stupid, for myriad reasons.
  3. Liberals (extended from Democrats and distinct from progressives [and mainly referring to vapid talking heads on the ol' boob tube and the not so ol' social media]) = apparently secretly racist, sexist, transphobic, MAGA-lite shitbags all along, who don't have a clue what they're talking about, because now they're apparently trying to blame "special interest groups" (like, you know, immigrants and trans people and Palestinians) instead of their namby pamby, wishy washy, milquetoast, "trying to please everybody but actually pleasing nobody" candidates (e.g. Biden and Harris, see point #2), even though said politicians didn't even really do all the "bad" stuff that the pundits are claiming cost them the election (e.g. "bad" stuff like "caring too much about" immigrants and trans people and Palestinians). Let's just say pants-on-head stupid and leave it at that, I guess.
  4. Republicans (specifically, the vile, self-centered, hypocritical asshats who knew and continue to know that Trump is eminently terrible and have explicitly said so in the past, but who now pretend to adore the taste of Trumpian dingleberries) = vile, self-centered, hypocritical asshats who slurp the shit on Trump's ass hair either out of cowardly fear of reprisal, out of the hope that Trump can directly benefit them at the expense of everyone else, and/or out of petty, hateful revenge for racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic, etc. very stupid reasons.
  5. Some More News (both the creators and the fans of the show): could and should and need to do better.
  6. In conclusion: We, all of us, even those who voted for Trump, are almost assuredly about to be properly super fucked by Trump and his incoming administration of utter clowns (with apologies to clowns for the unfair comparison), and we need to be prepared for the consequences of that, despite the fact that this is a thing that was easily predicted and long foreshadowed due to the very words that have come out of the face-anuses of Donald Trump and those who disingenuously support Donald Trump. We're all in this together, whether we like it or not.

"Hi. Let's take a look back at the 2024 Democratic National Convention – what the speakers said, the media reaction, the right-wing grifters who tried to infiltrate it, and what we would have really liked to see."

(Just to get it out of the way, while I'm mostly fine with the [morbid, gallows] humor and all that, I really wish that Some More News would do away with the full on fucking skits. Like, getting rid of anything at all to do with fucking Warmbo would be great, along with all the "evil Katy" stuff. Anyway, this episode doesn't truly start until around 3:30 into the video. Basically, in the video timeline, you can very safely skip the entire section labeled as "Intro," and another five to ten minutes could easily be trimmed out, too, thanks to all the other asinine Warmbo-related and "evil Katy"-related skit shit. [That one little red finger puppet dude with the top hat who had appeared in previous videos and later on in this one is okay, though, I guess. Except that, spoiler alert, Cody apparently killed and ate him in this video. Oh well.])

Annnnnnyway...

Lesson one: Just "vibes" don't make Cody happy. Fair enough.

Lesson two: Take fact checkers with a grain of salt. Who fact checks the fact checkers, after all? Themselves? Not so much.

Lesson three: Yeah, the first third of this video was criticizing the DNC (and, briefly, fact checkers). But the second third of this video was criticizing the rancid, delusional RWNJ response to the DNC. Oh boy! Right wing grifters are stupid assholes! And other tautologies/redundancies! To hell with Charlie Kirk. To hell with... uh... that MyPillow guy, whoever the fuck he is? ("Mike Lindell" apparently? That name seems vaguely familiar, probably from previous SMN videos.) To hell with "Libs of Tiktok." To hell with Matt Walsh. To hell with Jack Posobiec. To hell with Laura Loomer. To hell with Catturd. (Wait, what? Seriously? There is a RWNJ "personality" who goes by the name "Catturd"? What the actual, literal, unvarnished fuck.) To hell with JD Vance. (Remember that douchenozzle?) To hell with Ben Shapiro. To hell with Dinesh D'Souza. To hell with Ann Coulter. Seriously, just an entire smorgasbord of RWNJ dumbshits showcased in this video. To hell with the entire lot of them.

Lesson four: Third third of the video: More bashing on the Democrats, because there are other, real, valid reasons that the DNC still sucks, actually. Not that Trump/Trumpublicans wouldn't still be far, far worse, even on the same issues, of course, as the video fully grants. But even so. "Democrats: At Least We Won't Make Things Worse." US politics, as a whole, is fucking ridiculous, stanky clownshoes.

"Hi. Last week, we looked at why The Daily Wire is putting out original content that they claim is apolitical. This week, we're doing a deep dive on Jeremy Boreing's magnum opus: Lady Ballers."

Not putting the "movies" tag on this, because I don't want to taint my "movies" tag with this RWNJ dumbshit.

Some of the off-panel books on that shelf are probably titled "FOX News" and "Breitbart" and "InfoWars." ¬_¬

Of course, "man selling nutritional supplements" already counts for Alex Jones (and others like Glenn Beck and Ben Shapiro).

"Hi. The GOP has been in control of the House for just over two months, but all they can seem to do is promote awful legislation, hold performative investigations, and fight amongst themselves."

So, essentially, it's pretty much what everyone with at least two brain cells to rub together expected would be the case, then.

And, of course, yet more discussion of banal GQP whinging about "wokeness" in this video.

Also, those extended clips from CPAC near the end of the video made my arms tired, due to the sustained hoisting of double middle fingers throughout the whole bit.
kane_magus: (Default)

"Hi. There's been a lot of talk about Hollywood going woke and thus going broke. But is this really true? Is Hollywood, perhaps, pretty un-woke?"

No puppets, no skits, no other characters; just Cody Johnston talking to a camera for almost an hour, with occasional clips and quotes from RWNJ "news" "media" talking airheads and their ilk for him to clown on, just as God intended.

Yeah, Hollywood has never been particularly "woke" and still isn't, to this day, despite paying marginal lip service to it. RWNJs whinging about the "wokeness" of Hollywood accomplishes very little besides demonstrating how daffy RWNJs are.

(Also, I had no idea Kelsey Grammer was apparently a Trumpanzee until now [or if I did hear about it before, I don't recall]. But then, it's not like I was ever a huge fan of him or followed his every move or whatever before this. What little I've seen him in was all right, I guess? *shrug* I mean, what have I seen that he was in? X-Men movies with him as Beast? The Simpsons with him as Sideshow Bob? I've probably seen an episode or three of Cheers or Frasier at some point or another? His brief role in 1999 as the original voice of the Geico Gecko? Oh, wait! I know! He was that captain who showed up at the very end of that Star Trek TNG episode where the Enterprise was caught in a Groundhog Day loop. [And between this here and Cody himself mentioning Star Trek in the above video, I can now safely put the "star trek" tag on this post. Woohoo.])

(Full headline, because Dreamwidth continues to suck shit for subject line length: "Maybe Chelsea Handler’s Video About Being Childless Is Cringe, But the Call for Her to Stay Barefoot and Pregnant Instead Is Worse")

Hey. Hey, Cracked. Psst. Listen. I have a hot pro-tip for you, courtesy of Some More News:

Perhaps Ben Shapiro shouldn't be taken seriously by anyone about anything.

"Is Ben Shapiro a liar or just lazy and dumb? The answer may definitely not surprise you!"

Hey, Cracked, I'm sure you remember Cody Johnston, right? You know, that guy you unceremoniously dumped back in 2017, along with several other of your best creators, making your website pretty fucking shitty in the process? That guy? He's actually still around, and he's still pretty funny. (At least when he's not using hand puppets or whatever, anyway.)

Also, Cracked, stop saying "cringe." It's cringe.

"Hi. On our final episode of 2022, we look back at some stories we didn't cover, including soup getting thrown at art, a queen dying in some sort of kingdom, quiet quitting, and brief instances of some good news."

A bit too skit-heavy for my tastes (and, honestly, these days, any skits at all are too many, as far as I'm concerned), but otherwise an okay episode.

Without getting into all that other banal, tiresome, nauseating, bullshit "news" crap that Cody talks about all the time...

...pretty much everything I've personally seen and heard about the new Avatar movie has been good. I thought the first one was plenty good enough, too, for that matter (based on the one [1] time I've seen it, back when it first came out, 13 years ago), and I never really understood all the "oh god, not another Avatar movie, lord it's going to be terrible just like the first one was" opinions that washed/wafted across the Internet all effluvia-like in the wake of the announcement of its mere existence. Granted, I haven't seen the new one yet, so I don't know, maybe I'll hate it, but I doubt I'll hate it.
kane_magus: (Default)

"Hi. Those Republicans sure are hypocritical, aren't they? In this episode, we take a look at some of the many things they are hypocritical about, and analyze what that says about who they are and what they really believe.

"Note: During a brief discussion of Gamergate in this video, we accidentally used the wrong pronouns to refer to Zoë Quinn, who uses they/them pronouns."

Before watching the video... well, I've already made my opinion of GQP hypocrisy known. I.e. their flagrant hypocrisy is horrendous, but they don't give the slightest shit, because they've learned that they don't need to.

Now, to watch the video, and I'll kind of do things a bit different this time... a sort of "live"-blogging thing, where I write this post as I watch it (well, pausing to write this post, then going back to it), as opposed to writing the whole thing after all is said and done. But I'll go ahead and put the "middle-finger-worthy" tag on here, before I even start, because I know it'll be apt.

Okay, first off, I don't have a "kanye west" tag, and I'm never going to have a "kanye west" tag, but if I had a "kanye west" tag, it would definitely be on this post. To hell with Kanye West forever. Also, to hell with Alex Jones, but that just tells you how far off the deep end Kanye West is now, when he's making Alex fucking Jones, of all people, seem like the reasonable one by comparison. Remember, Alex Jones himself was the guy who made Piers fucking Morgan, of all people, seem like the reasonable one by comparison, back in the day.

Man, I'm only like 8 minutes in, and it's already becoming a Who's Who of RWNJ All Stars video. Kanye West, Fucker Carlson, Elon Musk, Candace Owens, fuck even GamerGate is making a comeback in this shit, Ben Shapiro, Herschel Walker (I guess at this point [30 minutes in] this post has mostly just devolved into listing who is in the video, rather than making any actual commentary about them), Ted Cruz (still don't have and won't make a tag for that doofus), former NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch, Nick Adams (man, this dude just really seems to like Hooters), Matt Walsh (man, this dude just really seems to want to fuck 12 year olds), Marjorie Taylor Greene, Kevin McCarthy, Kari Lake, Steven Crowder, and lastly Donald Trump (took long enough [50-ish minutes in] to finally mention that particular bozo). And a few others like Charlie Kirk, Tim Pool, Matt Gaetz, etc., though they weren't explicitly talked about by Cody, were at least shown on screen by name.

And yeah, as Cody points out at the very tip end of the video, the GQP doesn't have the monopoly on hypocrisy... it's just that they're so much worse/better(?)/worse(??)/better(???) at being hypocrites than anyone else. And it's not necessarily the fact that they're hypocrites that is bad, in and of itself, but that the actual views/opinions/talking points/policy decisions about which they're being blatant hypocrites are the things that are bad (or good, if said things are things to which they are opposed).

"Hi. Fascism has been on our minds lately and it looks like it's been on Ben Shapiro's as well. But, in looking through Shapiro's writing, he seems pretty confused about what fascism is, who is promoting it, when he doesn't like it, and when he totally does."

"Antifa is fascist." -- Ben Shapiro, apparently while trying to flex his huge brain muscle so hard that it cramped right up.

"Hi. This week, we're taking a look at the cruelty and shamelessness of when Ron DeSantis human trafficked a bunch of migrants to Martha's Vineyard. This did not go how the GOP thought it would, so they spent the last few weeks lying and pretending it did."

Yeah, this was certainly a thing that happened. More evidence that the GQP and the RWNJ media propping up the GQP are entities that need to cease existing as soon as possible.
kane_magus: (Default)

"Hi. In today's episode, we look at the escalating attacks from conservatives on school boards, and examine what the right actually wants to do with public education. (Note: it's not good!)"

Aside from the weird shrimp jokes, this episode was more like what I want from Some More News all the time, i.e. Cody Johnston simply sitting in front of a camera and being incredibly sardonic toward evil GQP numbskulls and their evil numbskull antics for an hour or so. No skits, no puppets, none of that bullshit. Except for the weird shrimp stuff. I could have done without the weird shrimp stuff.

Anyway, yeah, this is merely the four hundred hojillionth installment in the ever-ongoing "the GQP is obviously, cartoonishly evil and needs to cease existing as soon as possible" series.

"Hi, woke moralists! In today’s episode, we take a look at Jordan Peterson through the lens of Jungian archetypes – just as he would want – and explore some of his other ideas about climate change, gender, marriage, hierarchies, and lobsters. Don’t check the timecode!"

This video is literally longer than The Movie, despite Cody's many jokes to the contrary in this very video.

Also, to go off on a completely unrelated tangent that has nothing to do with anything about this video, I am, from this point forward, going to start carrying around with me a copy of The Loud House: Revamped, and every time someone asks me a simple "yes" or "no" question that I don't want to answer, or like any question at all, I'm just going to pull that bad boy out and read it, in its entirety, right there on the spot. Though I may spice things up on occasion and whip out The Subspace Emissary's Worlds Conquest or Ambience: A Fleet Symphony instead.

Anyway, to get back on topic, I eagerly await the twenty-seven hour rebuttal video that I'm sure Jordan Peterson is already working on in response to this Some More News video. Oh, wait, no. No, I'm not. I'm not eagerly awaiting that at all.

"Hi. In this week's video, we discuss the Supreme Court overturning Roe Vs Wade, and man, it's a real bummer."

Obligatory gripe about shitty teaser videos and premieres and whatnot.

With that out of the way...

They don't mention it in this video, but I think one of the most hypocritical things about the whole anti-abortion brouhaha is this: the states which ostensibly care so very much about the "sanctity of life" or whatever that they're climbing over each other to be the first to enact draconian laws against women getting abortions and against anyone who dares to lift a finger to help women get abortions... are the same fucking states that are potentially most likely to punish anyone and everyone who violates said draconian laws... ...with the fucking death penalty.

Also, mild shout out, again, to how utterly (and intentionally) broken the Supreme Court is, now, which they also touch upon in this video.
