"Shortly before the console's release, Microsoft offered to buy Nintendo for twenty-five billion dollars. Nintendo of America's then president, Minoru Arakawa, originally thought the offer was a joke. But once Microsoft's intentions were clear, Nintendo took the offer seriously and discussed the deal in Japan over six or seven meetings. Microsoft wanted Nintendo to drop its console business and make games for the Xbox. But Nintendo's CEO at the time, Hiroshi Yamauchi, didn't like the idea and believed Microsoft lacked an understanding of the industry."

We dodged a nuclear warhead with that one.

And now, almost 20 years later, it is blatantly obvious that Hiroshi Yamauchi was, of course, entirely correct. Not that that has stopped Microsoft from force-feeding its fetid "understanding" of the industry down the throats of gamers and other developers (including Nintendo itself) during that time. *weary, defeated sigh*

So yeah... still slowly but surely plugging away at getting through the videos on the DidYouKnowGaming? Youtube channel. I'm up to the "within the past 3 years, so they show up as released '2 years' ago" videos, even though this one here is less than a month shy of being a full three years old. Not sure if I'll ever get fully caught up, at this rate.

As of today, I no longer own any video game consoles or associated games. I sold all of that stuff to Lost Ark Video Games in Greensboro, NC. Well, actually, I do still own a Xbox 360, because Lost Ark wouldn't buy the old fat model, a Playstation 2, which I didn't even take out there to bother to try to sell because it was already on its last legs, and an old, modded Playstation 1 that I didn't even take with me to Washington when I moved out there in 2004, let alone to Lost Ark to try to sell. (EDIT) Oh, and I still have a Wii Fit board, even though I no longer have a Wii to connect it to, because I forgot to bring the stupid thing with me when I sold all the other crap. (/EDIT) Everything else is gone, though, including the handheld stuff. And, weirdly, I don't feel too awfully bad about it. I thought it would probably feel like the rough equivalent of selling one's children to do it or some such, but no... nothing all dramatic like that. (EDIT 2) I have to say that going into my Backloggery and tagging all those games with the little "Formerly Owned" ghost was somewhat sad, though. Some of them I had to actually (stealth) add as new games, since they weren't previously even in the list given that I hadn't bothered to update my Backloggery page in forever, only to then mark them as "Formerly Owned." >_> (EDIT 3) And... that was probably very close to the last time I ever even bothered to keep up with my Backloggery page, so... yeah. (/EDIT 3) (/EDIT 2)

Now, though, I still have a ton of old PC games, which Lost Ark also wouldn't buy, that I need to do something with. I'll probably end up selling those individually on eBay or Amazon Marketplace or something. I actually could have done the same for the consoles and console games as well, and probably would have gotten more money out of them in the long run if I'd done so, but I just wanted to unload them somewhere relatively convenient, so that's what I did.

Physical disc/cartridge games, that is. I'm not even talking about digital stuff on Steam or GOG or whatever. A bunch of old shit that I'll almost assuredly never play again. Some are duplicates, even. For instance, I own three copies of Chrono Trigger (original SNES, Playstation, and DS versions). Hell, some of the games are stuff that I've since re-bought on Steam and/or GOG. I came to this realization while trying to get my final stuff packed. I know I've said in the past that I don't sell video games anymore, but... I think I'm going to be selling a shit-ton of video games... once I get them all back to North Carolina. -_-; Yeah, I probably should have sold them before moving if I was going to sell them at all, but it's too late for that now, and I'm not going to just leave them here. I suppose I could just take them to Half Price Books, same as I did all those old textbooks the other day, but, unlike all those old textbooks, I'm thinking I can potentially get a whole lot more money by selling the games on eBay or something. I'll need it if I can't get a new job in NC relatively quickly.

In any case, I will be leaving for North Carolina for good next Friday, Feb 21, so I have between now and then to finish packing and schedule a pick-up for the USPS to come get all of this crap (as I'm shipping the majority of it in Flat Rate USPS boxes). The sooner the better. Most everything is already boxed up, and I hope to have the boxes sealed and the shipping labels printed out by end of day tomorrow, for a Monday pick-up. I just hope there isn't some sort of limit on the number of boxes that can be picked up in a single day. >_>;

It's been over two years since I made this post, and that frozen child glitch is still in Fable 2. The only good thing is that the bug usually tends to magically resolve itself as one continues normal progression through the game, which is probably why they haven't bothered to fix it, but it is very annoying that it's still an issue at all.

The fact that they haven't fixed what was a pretty common bug in Fable 2 after two whole years, of course, does not bode well at all for Fable 3. -_- I'm still waiting on a patch for that one, which is the main reason why I'm even playing Fable 2 again in the first place.

At least I managed to make it through Fable: The Lost Chapters without any issues. Well, that is, aside from having to rebuy it for the Xbox because the PC version apparently doesn't work on Windows 7 at all.

Yep, I'm going to stick with doing this for a while. This one will be like the first one, with the current game that I am playing, epic track, old-school track setup.

And that's it for this entry. Until next time.

I had held out hope that it may actually start to rain again eventually, given that it had been nice and cloudy for the past couple of days. But then today had to be depressingly bright and sunny. *sigh*

Stuff about games I ordered online, now behind a cut because it was getting long )

I guess I should just quit buying X-Box games altogether. After all, at least for the good games on the system, they just end up releasing better versions for the PC a year or so later, anyway.

"I recall your earliest lessons. You fell from a thousand feet during the Walk of Death, which alone was hard enough at your age. But you made short work of the Walk of Maiming and the Walk of Intense Discomfort, and tore your head clean off. I comforted you (well, your head), saying that you could just walk it off because, you know, the cut was clean. And you would punch a mountain. IN SPACE."

Bought Fable: The Lost Chapters for PC and Shenmue II for X-Box (even though I already have the Euro import of Shenmue II for the Dreamcast).

While ringing up my stuff, the clerk mentioned how it sucked that Shenmue III would probably never see the light of day. I agreed and was sad.

But then, I added a $5 pre-order for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion to the stuff I was getting and was mostly happy again.

*lengthy pause*

After searching the 'net for a bit to see what buzz, if any, could found on Shenmue III, I happened across this article, dated August 23, 2005. Now, this thing is full of "undisclosed sources" and all that jazz, and I haven't seen it corroborated elsewhere since most other sites are simply linking back to this article. So I'll believe the contents when I see the final proof with my own eyes. That proof, of course, being the game mentioned in the article actually being released finally. In other words, don't anyone get their hopes up prematurely over this. Still, if there is some veracity to the article, then that's pretty frickin' sweet.

I'm only about six or so hours in, but so far Jade Empire is roughly the equivalent of Knights of the Old Republic + 12.

Sucks that I have to sleep now though.

(Edit)
And to avoid the confusion that has come up elsewhere, that is a twelve, and not some weird attempt to combine KOTORs 1 and 2 into a single game.

Since I preferred the first KOTOR to the second KOTOR, and since the second KOTOR rocked very very much, and since I'm now saying Jade Empire is twelve more than the first KOTOR, this should give you my high opinion of Jade Empire. Jade Empire has received a plus twelve to "this game is the man."

I put down $5 on the limited edition of Jade Empire for X-box. In addition to that, I picked up Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. I would have also gotten Minish Cap, but they didn't have any in stock.

Now then, I have a choice. Whenever I finally finish Star Ocean 3, should I play vol. 3 and 4 of .hack, or should I play ep 1 and 2 of Xenosaga (replay in the case of ep 1), or should I play Paper Mario, or should I just wait and play Jade Empire? Considering that it's very likely that I'll not have Star Ocean 3 finished by the time Jade Empire drops week after next, even though I'm sure I'm fairly close to the end, the last choice seems the most likely. After that, I'll probably go with .hack, then Paper Mario, then Xenosaga.
